Deepika Joon

Deepika Joon has coordinated the activities of the UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development at Leuphana University since 2020. In this role, she is responsible for communications and reporting and represents the Chair in different forums within and outside the university.

She leads the project Teacher Leadership for ESD, implemented in Cyprus, Greece, Germany, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia, and in this capacity coordinates the Euro-Africa Teachers Network on ESD. Previously, she led Politics4Future, a project for teacher trainees on the intersections between Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education. Deepika is pursuing doctoral research on indicators for teacher leader development and teaches a research-based learning module in the winter semester.

Before joining Leuphana University, she worked at UNESCO on youth mobilisation for peace, education and sustainable development. She is a CEE Change fellow with the North American Association for Environmental Education.
