ESD Profile | Sustainability Specialization for Teacher Students

The ESD Profile project develops a new sustainability profile for pre-service teachers at Leuphana.

What is it about?

Lower Saxony's 2021 ESD decree made sustainability education a binding element of all school curricula, and every school has to appoint an ESD officer. To take on such roles, pre-service teachers need grounding in the subject as well as reflective competencies. How can teacher education at Leuphana prepare them for this?

Goals

• Develop a new study profile in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within Leuphana's profile-study programme for future teachers
• Combine ESD foundations with a structured reflection track on transformative professional development
• Pilot the new profile

Approach

The project builds on the existing profile-study format with its five-element ePortfolio. It designs and pilots an ESD profile that adds a structured reflection track on transformative professional development to the ESD foundations.
