Affiliated Membership

Affiliated Members are colleagues at Leuphana University Lüneburg who want to be an active part of the community around the UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development. They join our activities, bring in ideas of their own and share the aims of the Chair, which they help to advance at Leuphana and beyond. Interested? Let’s talk.

Let’s talk

We start with a conversation with the chairholder team, Daniel Fischer and Harald Hantke, about shared interests and what you would like to do with us.

Agreement on Affiliated Membership

The Chair

Since 2005, Leuphana University holds the UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD). The Chair supports educational institutions to become places where sustainability can be lived and learned. Current areas of work are teacher education and leadership, inter- and transdisciplinary learning, and learner participation and empowerment.

Who this is for

Our newsletter, Lecture Series and public events are open to everyone with an interest in HESD, no agreement needed. Affiliated Membership is for those who want a more formal, continuing role in the work of the Chair and wish to be named as part of it, for instance on its website.

What you can expect and do

As an Affiliated Member you can

  • be part of the Chair’s academic community and its international network, with invitations to our formats and information about calls, events and opportunities,
  • be listed on the Chair’s website and present yourself as an Affiliated Member of the UNESCO Chair in HESD at Leuphana University Lüneburg (see below),
  • help shape the Lecture Series, by prior agreement, through programme ideas, moderation or contributions of your own,
  • take part in the Journal Club and contribute to further activities such as events, talks, publications or project proposals,
  • propose and establish new activities of the Chair.
What we ask of Affiliated Members

As an Affiliated Member you

  • share the aims of the Chair and help to advance them at Leuphana and beyond,
  • take part regularly and dependably. As a guide, we suggest joining at least two of the Chair’s formats a year and contributing actively to one of them,
  • collaborate in a respectful and open way and name the Chair in publications and presentations that arise from work carried out within it.
Using the name and logo of the Chair

You may state your affiliation with the Chair and use the Chair’s logo to do so, for example in your email signature, on a profile page or on a slide introducing you. This needs no prior agreement, as long as what the logo identifies is you as a person and your Affiliated Membership.

Projects, events and publications of your own can be presented as activities of the Chair, logo included, once this has been discussed with the chairholder team and agreed, which is usually easy. In line with UNESCO policy, please do not present an activity as one of the Chair without such agreement, or speak on behalf of the Chair or of UNESCO unless asked to. As a UNESCO Chair cannot pass permission to use the UNESCO logo on to third parties, the logo meant here is that of the UNESCO Chair at Leuphana University Lüneburg, in the version provided by the Chair team.

Status, duration and review

Affiliated Membership is agreed with the chairholder team, usually after a conversation about shared interests. It does not constitute an employment relationship and carries no remuneration and no claim to resources of the Chair or of Leuphana University Lüneburg.

It runs from the date of signature until the end of the following calendar year and can be renewed for a further such period by mutual agreement. Both sides can end it at any time; the entry on the website is then removed.
